THE REASON BEHIND MAM CARE

MAM care is dedicated to providing the best possible service for our clients. Having had personal experience with a Personal Health Budget for many years, we have gained a deep understanding of the complexities involved in managing them and the challenges of ensuring the well-being of your loved ones.

We developed MAM Care based on our own personal challenges in establishing a PHB. We recognised that there was a significant learning curve when transitioning into a managerial role and identified a lack of support. Having experienced these difficulties firsthand, we made the decision to assist others facing similar circumstances.

Our mission is to make it easier for all families to access a Personal Health Budget (PHB), so that you can provide the best customised care for your loved ones.

REBECCA BRUNT

Director

I currently work as a personal health care assistant for Sanam and her 3 disabled children. I joined Sanam's personal health budget team in 2020 when she had just started up. Over the past three years, we have developed a strong friendship and frequently discussed the lack of support and guidance available for families starting a personal health budget. As a result, we have decided to join forces and utilise our collective knowledge and experience to establish MAM Care. Our goal is to equip families with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively establish and manage their own personal health budget.

THE INSPIRATION

Maliyka, Azaan and Mohammed-Hafiz are the three children of Sanam Khan, MAM is in their honour.
They have a multitude of complex life limiting needs including an undiagnosed neurodegenerative disorder which requires the 2 children to be ventilated via a tracheostomy and the youngest NIV nocturnally. All three children are non verbal and have low muscle tone, they are registered blind and require the use of many medical equipment. Sanam is passionate about ensuring the best quality of life for her children.

Sanam has required carers in her life for the past 10 years. She has always found that care teams create across the board rules that did not always work for families individually. And having 3 complex needs children, the rules never suited this family well.

After a frustrating breakdown during Covid lockdown with the care team, Sanam created a PHB for her children. She was passionate about creating the 'perfect' team.

Rebecca came to Sanam as a personal assistant and helped care for her 3 amazing children for 3 years. They now have a great friendship and decided to embark on this journey to help other families out there.

Along with other friends in the profession, they created a PHB and it has now been 3 years, running successfully.

Having a disabled loved one can be extremely stressful and difficult, as well as having day to day responsibilities, creating a care team may be the last thing on your mind.

We believe having knowledge and guidance can empower families to take that step into the PHB community and thrive.

The most rewarding part of a PHB is that children like Maliyka, Azaan and Mohammed-Hafiz  and their families can create amazing bonds with their PA's and they receive the care they deserve from happy staff members whom feel a part of their family.
